Abstract: |
Due to the magnitude of the health problems brought on by the textile industry's heavy reliance on chemicals, it's imperative that we make the switch to more environmentally friendly options. Fungi provide us with the answer for environmentally friendly staining and distaining of textile fibers |
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ? |
Synthetic pigments and non-renewable dyes damage the environment. After such research, textile stakeholders would want to dye and discolor materials, especially with fungi. Fungal color pigments are biodegradable and sustainable, unlike synthetic colors. |
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ? |
Since green technology is getting more attention than synthetic technology, The textile industry—a key polluter and economic driver—needs big adjustments. Because of its eco-friendly staining and de-staining solution, the textile industry will be drawn to the new breakthrough. |
How will the solution works |
Here, we are focusing on dyeing and bleaching processes that are integral to the textile industry. To begin, we'll ferment a specific group of fungi to extract the pigments we need, then mix those pigments into the fiber and dry them at high temperatures to set the color. As for bleaching, the fungus will be cultured in order to extract the specific enzymes, which, when applied to the synthetically colored product, will cause the latter to lose those synthetic hue. |
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different |
The major rivals are the manufacturers of synthetic dyes and bleaching agents because our proposed innovative process is an environmentally friendly - alternative to the traditional process in the textile industry. |
