Abstract: |
The efficiency of Solar Panels is reduced due to the accumulation of dust on the panels. To overcome this, we mainly use water for cleaning which is considered a scarce resource. Attempts at waterless cleaning causes irreversible scratching of the surfaces. We present the idea of a waterless approach for dust removal by charging the dust particles using electrostatic induction. |
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ? |
Our idea conserves water as it is a scarce resource. It maintains the efficiency of solar panels. It eliminates the need of consistent and hefty labor. Due to its contact less approach, it protects the panel surfaces from scratches. It assists in the achievement of UN SDGs No. 6, 7 & 13. |
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ? |
This project targets the Solar parks across the World. In-order-to clean a solar park, a large amount of water Is required which is not viable. Secondly, most Solar parks are situated in desert areas and transporting water to such places is also a huge task. Such a product is perfect for Solar parks |
How will the solution works |
The system uses electrostatic repulsion to cause dust particles to detach and virtually leap off the panel’s surface. For activation, an electrode passes above the solar panel’s surface, imparting an electrical charge to the dust particles, which are then repelled by a charge applied to the panel itself. The prototype will consist of two plates, one of metal and the other of transparent conductive surface. The latter one will be placed on the panel surface while the metal plate will be moveable |
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different |
The process of cleaning solar panels is mostly carried out using water and detergents. Some people use vipers and clothes for dry cleaning. But it causes scratches on the surface. Our idea is completely different as it uses a waterless and contactless approach to achieve the same results. |
