| In underdeveloped countries, an inefficient method is used to collect data from the energy meters, which is not efficient and requires human effort. To address this problem, our aim is to design and implement a smart meter that transforms the conventional energy meters into modernized smart energy meters, to increase efficiency as well as help to reduce the human effort in billing assessment. |

| An energy crisis is one of the main issues faced by the world today. These crises can be overcome by properly managing energy resources. However, conventional energy meters can only measure the energy consumed by the consumer and lack advanced features such as net metering i.e. two-way communication |
| Who needs it ? How many would benefit ? |
| IoT-based smart energy meters are a need of both commercial and domestic levels as this meter will help in improving the billing system. It also helps both the consumer and the supplier to keep track of the load profile and take proper action. So (SM) is a need of everyone using electricity. |
| How will the solution works |
| This will help in improving the billing system. Avoid human error while taking meter readings which may result in an error. Both consumer and supplier can track the daily and monthly load profile and take proper action. Furthermore, the smart meter will inform the grid about the power quality and reliability at the consumer side by providing information about voltage, current, frequency, and power factor.

| Competitors include those students or industries who are working in this domain and they are constantly increasing features in the smart energy meter, however, our energy meter is different from others as it includes net metering and auto billing IoT system. |
