Under-developed countries like Pakistan lack in resources to properly monitor extreme weather events. The framework of this study is twofold: investigating the frequency of occurrence of hydrometeorological extremes over Pakistan as well as assessing the performance accuracy of model-based products (e.g., ERA5 from European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts) in detection of these extremes. | |

Spatial and temporal continuity of model-based climate data offers a potential alternative to supplement the observed data at a sparse gauging network in Pakistan. However, investigation studies on statistical accuracy of these datasets regarding the detection of extreme weather events is lacking. | |

Socio-economic system of Pakistan is being and/or going to be affected by the hydrometeorological extremes. Thus, a comprehensive investigation on how accurately these extremes can be monitored could give insights into possible developments such as early warning of these extreme events. | |
How will the solution works | |
Technical working involves obtaining and pre-processing the ground station-based observed data for climate parameters data over Pakistan, downloading and processing of ERA5 data, identification of extreme weather events, analyses on frequency of these events, and investigation on statistical and spatial performance accuracy of ERA5 in capturing the extremes. | |
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different | |
To authors’ knowledge, there is no dedicated research work comprehensively focused on the frequency analyses of extremes. Another distinction of the proposed study is statistical performance assessment of model-based data in detection of these extremes. | |
