Abstract:
    To obtain a close to reality 3D model of any structure, a dense point cloud is the basic necessity. Many techniques have been used such as taking many scan and taking scans from different points and angles. Our method is to have a 3D measurement system using a LiDAR combined with a mechanical system which deflects the laser beam in different direction and thus getting data from each direction.
What is the unmet need in society that your idea will fulfill ?
    These type of systems are used in civil engineering to generate a Building Information Model or B.I.M. Also to obtain the data of underground huge construction like tunnels etc. whose data cannot be obtained accurately using conventional means. These system will eliminate the conventional methods.
Who needs it ? How many would benefit ?
   Anyone in manufacturing, engineering, design, development, surveying or testing. 3D scanning technology can be applied at any point in a typical manufacturing cycle, saving time, money and material. 3D scanning results in higher quality, better fitting parts that are less costly to manufacture.
How will the solution works
    The system is consist of two motors which are responsible for the rotation of two separate platforms. One platform is being rotated around x-axis and the second one is being rotated around z-axis. The 2D laser scanner is placed on the top platform. This platform’s movement can be control in upward and downward direction (pitch). And then the second platform will be rotated in the left and right direction (yaw). This will help the scanner to generate a scan of 360 degree.
Who are your competitors ? How is your solution different
    Current competitor to our project is ZEB Revo RT. This 3d scanner scans environment by spinning through only one axis rotation while our 3d scanner has two axis rotation which would minimize the point clouds distance which will most likely increase the resolution.
